This ancestor had to eat to fuel himself. His diet had to allow him to withstand harsh weather, permit him to outrun predators, and sustain him through his daily labors. His diet was limited to what was available in his environment. Thus, he did not consume many carbohydrates. His diet was high in protein.

Critics of the diet are quickly silenced by the research, as well as the realization that the Paleolithic Man did not suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.

The research reveals that our bodies are not designed to process many of the foods comprising our modern diet. As a result, we feel sluggish and fight off illness. Our bodies are not operating at their optimum levels because we are feeding them substandard fuel.

Studies conducted by Frassetto, Schloetter, Mietus-Snyder, and Sebastian showed that even when participants only stayed on the diet short-term, the improvements in glucose tolerance and blood pressure were significant. Gains in insulin sensitivity and lipid profiles were noteworthy as well. The studies included participants who only followed the Paleolithic diet. They did not exercise. So even in sedentary adults, the health benefits were immense.

A Paleolithic Diet is absent processed foods, including grains and sugar. In their place, you consume fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. Your body will drink up the ample Vitamin C, fiber, iron, Calcium, and folate. You will have the necessary fatty acids your body craves. What you won’t have is too much salt and sugar, and you won’t have saturated fats in your system.

It was gastroenterologist, Voegtlin, who first brought the Paleo Diet to the attention of the world in 1975. So don’t be concerned that the Paleolithic way of eating is just another fad diet. Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a way of living. It is a new way of looking at food. Once you realize that only the best fuels can power your body appropriately, you will not only change your way of eating, but your entire life.

You will enjoy the increased energy, stamina, and overall health on the Paleo diet. Once you realize how good you are supposed to feel, you will never return to the lethargy you experience on a modern diet filled with processed foods.

Fruits and Vegetables

You can eat virtually all fruits and vegetables because they are great for you. However avoid high carbohydrate vegetables such as potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Avoid peanuts and other Legumes

Oils

You can use Olive, Avocado, Walnut, Flaxseed and Canola Oils. Grapeseed oil is a great alternative to peanut oil if you need to cook something at high heat for a sear or quick cooking. Use all oil in moderation.

What is Paleo Diet?

You have probably heard of the recent craze of people going natural and organic. Everything is chemical and pesticide free and they now don’t use chemicals to manipulate crops. The current trend is fresh and everyone is getting into the fad. Others would go even a step further by adapting the Paleo Diet. What is Paleo Diet? The Paleolithic Diet is patterned after the diet in that era. That was when everything was fresh and green. There were no fast-food chains or instant stuff that most people live on these days. Now people want to go back and replicate that healthy diet.

The Benefits of Paleo Diet

There are countless benefits that the Paleo Diet can give you. Your food intake is definitely healthier due to its fresh content. Use of salt is not included in the diet so salt intake will be significantly lower. Modern foods like pastas, bread and rice are also not included. Instead you should eat fresh fruits and vegetables. The diet is really healthy and you would have to give up a lot when you plan to adapt the diet.

Health benefits are also evident in the diet. The diet has low glycemic content which can lower your blood sugar levels. In fact a lot of Diabetics have tried out the diet and were happy because of their lower blood sugar levels. If you eliminate modern sweet foods like cakes, cookies, ice cream and chocolates, your blood sugar level will surely drop. The diet also helps people lower their blood pressures. With the decreased intake of fat and salt, the blood pressure levels will be significantly lower. Adapting the diet may also eliminate your risks for stroke and various heart diseases. You can enjoy life longer and you will feel great too.

When you really think about it, everyone can benefit by eliminating these modern foods from your diet. Getting rid of salt and sugar may be a bit hard at first but you’ll gradually get used to it. You can easily enjoy an array of fresh fruits and vegetables. There’s no need to buy anything instant like instant meals or frozen pizza. What you need to eat are just fresh and natural foods.
